ShortlistGear is an automated brief on consumer tech. A scheduled job reads the feeds listed below, merges any stories that several outlets are covering into a single entry, and writes a short summary in our own words. We never reproduce the publisher's article text — every entry links straight to the original reporting, and headlines remain the property of the publisher.
How sources are chosen
Republishing is a permission question, not a technical one: a publisher can run an RSS feed for human readers and forbid republication of the same articles in the same terms document. So before a feed is added, its terms of use and its robots.txt are read, and the publisher's own wording decides. We only read publishers whose terms permit this use, or that publish no restriction on it, and we stop reading a publisher the moment its terms stop allowing it. Every entry carries the source's headline as a link to the original article, and no article text is copied. Publishers or their agents can have any entry removed through the contact form below and we act on it promptly.
Editorial rules
- Short original summaries only (target 45 words), plus a one-line "why it matters".
- Automatic check that no twelve-word span is shared with the source text.
- Deal facts (price, was-price, discount, code, shipping, expiry, retailer) are quoted from the offer as published and never inferred — a field with no stated value stays empty.
- Not every published entry is offered to search engines. Entries that only restate a single
publisher's story are served
noindex: they are here for readers, not for the index. - Corrections, removals and takedown requests: see the contact below — we act on them promptly.
Advertising
Sponsored placements are labelled "Sponsored" and are never styled to look like editorial. They are limited to one unit per five feed items, one per story and one sidebar unit, and no pop-ups or interstitials are used. Ads link to CrowdfundShowcase listings and are marked as such.
